In the seven cities on this page, the city bus (otobüs) runs on a card and a fare list of its own, and each operator prints its fares on its own page. The figures here are those pages’ figures, read on 03.11.2026.

In short · checked 03.11.2026

Each city sets its own card and its own fare. İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Antalya, Kayseri and Eskişehir are on this page.

  • Cards: İstanbulkart (İstanbul), Başkent Kart Ulaşım (Ankara), İzmirim Kart (İzmir), BursaKart (Bursa), AntalyaKart (Antalya), Kart38 (Kayseri) and ESKART (Eskişehir).
  • Full fare on the city card: İzmir 35.00 · Ankara 40.00 · Eskişehir 40.00 · Antalya 42.00 · İstanbul 46.20 · Kayseri 48.00 TL. Bursa prints 26 line classes, from 37.50 to 275.00.
  • Free travel: by law, citizens of Türkiye aged 65 and over ride the city transport of municipalities free. Ankara adds residents aged 61 to 64 at set hours.
  • Transfers (aktarma): İstanbul 2 hours; İzmir 90 minutes; Bursa 90 minutes in listed cases; Ankara 75 minutes; Antalya once, 5 minutes to 1 hour. Credit- or bank-card boardings get no transfer in Ankara, İzmir, Antalya and Eskişehir.
  • Night lines: İETT lists 13. ESHOT’s Baykuş lines are 910 to 950, all to Konak, with a fare list of their own. The hours are on each line’s own page.

At the front door

Pick a city and who is boarding, then press Kart okut (tap the card on the reader). The card in the drawing becomes the one that rider holds, the reader shows the fare, and the next press shows the transfer. The buttons use each operator’s own Turkish words: tam (full), indirimli (reduced), öğrenci (student), öğretmen (teacher).

One press, one boarding. The next press shows the transfer.

Who runs the buses

A city bus is an otobüs, a line is a hat and a stop is a durak. Two kinds of bus can share one city’s fare list: the operator’s own bus and the private public bus (özel halk otobüsü, ÖHO), a city bus run by a private person or company that the municipality has authorised (belediyeler tarafından yetki verilen özel şahıs ya da şirketler, in the wording of the law on free and reduced travel).

İstanbul
İETT. Its tariff covers İETT buses and private public buses. Card: İstanbulkart. Istanbul Public Transport covers the city’s other modes.
Ankara
EGO Genel Müdürlüğü, the EGO General Directorate. Its tariff covers EGO buses, Ankaray, Metro, Başkentray, ÖTA and ÖHO. Card: Başkent Kart Ulaşım.
İzmir
ESHOT Genel Müdürlüğü, the ESHOT General Directorate. The fare list is the metropolitan municipality’s. Card: İzmirim Kart. Public Transport in İzmir covers ferries, the metro and İZBAN.
Bursa

Eskişehir
Eskişehir Büyükşehir Belediyesi, the metropolitan municipality, which prints the fares for its buses, trams and minibus–dolmuş lines. Card: ESKART.

İETT’s and EGO’s tariffs list private public buses beside their own buses, and EGO’s bus page says they joined Ankara’s city passenger transport in 1982. A dolmuş is a shared minibus; Eskişehir’s page prints a passenger fare for its minibus–dolmuş lines: 50.00 TL.

Paying: card, bank card, QR, phone

ESHOT’s rules page says the buses use an electronic fare system. It asks riders to have the card, or another way to pay (credit card, QR mobile apps), ready before boarding with at least the boarding fare available, and says no balance is loaded after boarding. What a boarding costs depends on how it is paid.

Reduced and free travel

Law no. 4736, adopted on 08.01.2002, sets the free ride in a paragraph added on 12.07.2013. Citizens of Türkiye aged 65 and over travel free on the city public transport of municipalities, of the companies they set up and of the private persons or companies they authorise.

  • 60 to 65: the law lets municipalities give free or reduced travel to people of these ages. Students and press-card holders: municipalities may discount them.
  • Refused: the law sets a fine of fifty full fares for each person who is refused a free or reduced ride they have the right to.
  • 65 and over: free on the city transport described above. EGO prints the papers for its personal 65-and-over card as the ID card (nüfus cüzdanı) and one photo; the card costs 113 TL.
  • Ankara, 61 to 64: free 10:30–15:00 and 19:00–24:00 on EGO buses, private public buses, Metro and Ankaray, for residents of Ankara, by council decision.
  • Disabled-card holders: the ministry’s FAQ lists municipal buses, metro, Marmaray, tram and city sea lines as free. A report with the note ağır engelli (severely disabled) lets one companion travel free with the disabled rider. Istanbul Accessibility covers İstanbul.
  • 29.10.2026: free on EGO buses, Metro and Ankaray from 06:00 to 23:59, by a council decision on religious and national holidays. İETT carried riders free that day with a personalised İstanbulkart, not on the Adalar lines, the nostalgic tram, the Tünel, SG-1, SG-2, 139 and 139A.
  • Showing the card: ESHOT’s rules say the photo side of a reduced or free card is shown to the driver when boarding.

The reduced groups differ by city and carry the operators’ own words: indirimli (reduced), öğrenci (student), öğretmen (teacher), emekli (retiree), genç (young), yaş (age). The fares, as the pages print them:
