Museum Pass

The five passes, side by side

Each pass lasts from its first entry and gives one entry per site. They pay off only when the tickets you would buy add up to more than the pass, so the last row shows how many of the dearest covered sites that takes. Your own sites and days: use the planner.

The Museum Pass is sold to visitors from abroad. Turkish citizens use the MüzeKart instead, and a foreigner with a Turkish ID number starting 99 or 98 can buy the Müzekart’99.

In force since 2 February 2026. Read from the directive’s tariff table on 1 October 2026. · Ministry directive (PDF)

The rules

Who pays what, by the directive

The ministry’s ticket directive decides who pays, who enters free and what the cards cover. This is the part of it that matters for a visit, checked 1 October 2026.

Directive art. 6(4)–(5)

Foreign visitors

Foreign visitors pay the tariff in euros at most ministry sites. The gate takes it in lira at the Central Bank’s effective selling rate of the previous day, so the lira amount moves a little from day to day. A ticket sold at a foreign-currency tariff cannot be sold to a Turkish citizen.

Annex 3 · Müzekart’99

Foreign residents

The list has no separate tariff for foreign residents, so this page prices them as foreign visitors. A foreigner with a Turkish ID number starting 99 or 98 can get the Müzekart’99: two entries per museum a year at ministry sites, not valid at Milli Saraylar or digital experience museums.

Annex 3 · MüzeKart+

Turkish citizens

Turkish citizens pay the lira tariff or enter with a MüzeKart, which gives two entries per museum a year at the ministry’s sites. For many sites the list says only that a MüzeKart enters; there is no cash price, so the planner shows them as card entries and leaves them out of the total.

Annex 4 · items 1, 2, 10

Children and over-65s

Citizens under 18 and citizens 65 and over enter the ministry’s sites free, and so do foreign children aged 8 and under. At the sites sold apart only children under 8, Turkish or foreign, are free. Topkapı and Dolmabahçe (Milli Saraylar) list their own tariff: children up to 6 are free there in our data.

Directive art. 5(6) · annex 4 item 15

Students

There is no general student discount: the directive allows no reduced tariff beyond its listed cases. Two things exist. An İndirimli MüzeKart is for students over 18 with a student ID, foreign students in Türkiye and TRNC students. And students of art history, archaeology, conservation, Hittitology, Sumerology, anthropology or museology at a university in Türkiye enter free. The planner applies only the free entry.

Annex 4

Other free entry

Free entry also goes to disabled visitors with one companion (a Turkish visitor’s companion must be Turkish; a foreign disabled visitor has no companion right), veterans and martyrs’ relatives, conscripts, ICOM, ICOMOS and UNESCO card holders, press, TÜRSAB agency owners, Ministry of Culture and Tourism staff, Ministry of Education teachers, ambassadors and consuls. Bring the card or document the directive names. This page does not price these groups.

Directive art. 5(5), 11(2)

Sites sold apart

Some sites are priced apart because they are fragile or crowded. MüzeKart does not cover them, and most free-entry rights do not apply there: only children under 8 and a short list (veterans, disabled visitors, ministry staff, local officials, ambassadors, students of the fields above and heads of the high courts) still count. Digital experience museums follow the same rule. The sites are listed below.

Directive art. 11 · annex 3

MüzeKart or Museum Pass

MüzeKart is the ministry’s annual card, sold to citizens and in other forms to students, teachers, disabled visitors and more. The Museum Pass is the multi-day card for visitors from abroad, one entry per site. MüzeKart fees follow the directive’s current tariff table and are shown with their date in the passes section while our copy is recent enough. An older annex on the DOSIM site lists other amounts; we do not use it.

Sold apart in the list

The directive also names the Topkapı Harem and Hagia Irene; in our data they sit inside the single Topkapı record. The Istanbul Cinema Museum is named too.

What this page cannot tell you

  • The page does not work out when a MüzeKart pays off for a citizen: it prices citizens ticket by ticket and leaves the card fee out of its totals.
  • Combined foreign tickets (such as the Ephesus set) and the beach-site passes are official products that the data does not carry.
  • Some places on the pass maps have no price record. They are named on the pass cards but cannot be planned or priced, and for some passes the official site count is higher than the number of places on the map.
  • Hours and dated closures are only partly in the data: closed weekdays are used; last-entry cut-offs appear as notes.
  • Where sources disagree or list no price for a group, the cell shows a dash instead of a guess. The Basilica Cistern is one.
Questions and answers

Museum tickets in Türkiye, answered

How much do Topkapı and Dolmabahçe Palace cost, and which days are they closed?

Topkapı Palace costs ₺2,750 for foreign visitors and ₺500 for Turkish citizens. It is one combined ticket for Topkapı, Hagia Irene and the Harem, valid for one day, and children aged 6 and under enter free. The palace is closed on Tuesdays. Dolmabahçe Palace costs ₺2,000 for foreign visitors and ₺250 for citizens (Selamlık, Harem and Painting Museum together), and is closed on Mondays. Both belong to the National Palaces administration, not to the ministry’s DOSIM list, so they keep their own tariff and closing days. Prices checked 1 Oct 2026.

Is the Museum Pass Istanbul worth it?

The pass costs €105 and lasts 5 days from the first entry, with one entry per site. The platform lists 10 sites on it. It pays off when the tickets you would otherwise buy add up to more than the pass: the 3 dearest covered sites together cost at least as much as the pass. So it suits a packed, museum-heavy stay and not one or two highlights. Put your own sites and days into the planner above for the exact comparison, including the sites the pass does not cover. It is not valid at night museums.

Is the Museum Pass Türkiye worth it, and what about the regional passes?

The Türkiye pass costs €165 for 15 days and lists 334 sites, so it is built for a route that crosses regions. The regional passes are cheaper and cover one area: Aegean €95 (7 days), Mediterranean €90 (7 days), Cappadocia €65 (3 days) and Istanbul €105 (5 days). Which one wins depends on the sites you pick, not on the headline price; a regional pass that covers most of your list usually beats the Türkiye pass. Add your route to the planner and it compares all five against single tickets.

Who gets into Turkish museums free?

At the ministry’s sites, Turkish citizens under 18 and aged 65 and over enter free, and so do foreign children aged 8 and under. Disabled visitors with one companion, veterans and martyrs’ relatives, press, ICOM, ICOMOS and UNESCO card holders, and a list of officials also have free entry; the directive names the document each needs. The sites sold apart allow far fewer of these rights, and only children under 8 are free there. The National Palaces (Topkapı, Dolmabahçe) set their own rules: in our data children up to 6 are free. The planner applies the age rules; see the section “Who pays what” for the rest.

Do students get a discount at Turkish museums?

Not at the ticket window. The ministry directive allows no reduced tariff beyond the cases it lists, so an ordinary student card does not lower the price at its sites. Two things do exist. Students over 18, foreign students in Türkiye and TRNC students can get an İndirimli MüzeKart. The İndirimli MüzeKart costs ₺100. And students of art history, archaeology, conservation, Hittitology, Sumerology, anthropology and museology at a university in Türkiye enter the ministry’s sites free with their student document. The planner has a setting for that last case.

Can a Turkish citizen or a resident use the Museum Pass?

The Museum Pass is a foreign-visitor product, and the directive says a ticket sold at a foreign-currency tariff cannot be sold to a Turkish citizen. Citizens use the MüzeKart, which gives two entries per museum a year at the ministry’s sites. A foreigner with a Turkish ID number starting 99 or 98 can buy the Müzekart’99 instead. The list has no separate tariff for foreign residents, so this page prices them as visitors; the planner offers the passes to them only as an estimate. The full MüzeKart costs ₺200. The Müzekart’99 costs ₺750. These amounts are from the directive’s current tariff table; an older annex on the DOSIM site lists other amounts.

What are the limits of a Museum Pass: days, blackout dates, entries?

Each pass gives one entry per site, and its days count from the first entry: 5 for Istanbul, 15 for Türkiye, and 7, 7 and 3 for the other three. The platform data lists no blackout dates. It does list an entry cut-off of 19:00, and a few places stop earlier, so check each site’s hours. The pass is not valid at night museums or at the sites the ministry sells apart, and the Mediterranean and Aegean passes cover Hierapolis but not the Ancient Pool inside it. A second visit to the same site needs a new ticket.

Do I pay in euros or in lira at the gate?

Foreign visitors see the tariff in euros, but the directive has the gate collect it in lira, converted at the Central Bank’s effective selling rate of the previous day. So the lira amount moves with the rate from day to day. On 30 Sept 2026 one euro was 55.61 lira, which is the rate this page uses for its estimates. The Museum Pass is priced in euros too: €105 for Istanbul is about ₺5,839.08 at that rate. Turkish citizens pay lira tariffs directly, and they do not move with the exchange rate.

What does it cost to visit Hagia Sophia?

Hagia Sophia is three different things in the data. The visitor gallery costs €25 from age 8, and younger children are free. The separate Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum costs €25. The ticket for one does not include the other, and neither is the mosque’s prayer floor. The operator notes an entry window for portal tickets and a Friday closure, so check its page before you go. Domestic card rules and agency tariffs for these two are not in our data, so MüzeKart holders should check the operator.

How current are these prices?

The newest price in the data was checked 1 October 2026, and each price keeps its own date in the downloads. The page reads the platform on request, with at most an hour of caching, and adds no figure of its own. Ministries change tariffs from time to time, and the lira figure of a euro ticket moves daily, so treat the totals as estimates and confirm at the gate. If something here disagrees with an official page, tell us and we will check it.

Method

  • Every price, pass price, pass length and pass coverage comes from the Turkpidya data platform, which reads the ministry’s published lists. Nothing is typed in by hand on this page; figures were last checked 1 October 2026.
  • Euro and dollar prices convert to your currency at the 30 Sept 2026 rate, ticket by ticket, rounded half up to the cent, as the platform’s own pass optimizer does. The gate converts at the previous day’s rate, so the lira you pay can differ by a few liras.
  • Single tickets: the lowest tariff that fits the age and citizenship you give, each site once. Free entry from the directive (children, over-65s and the student fields above) is applied only at the ministry’s own sites; the Milli Saraylar concessions are not in the data.
  • Passes: for every pass and every day you could start it, the planner counts the covered sites that fall inside its validity and keeps the cheapest result. A pass is offered only when it beats single tickets, and only to visitors from abroad.
  • Days: sites are grouped by city and spread evenly over the days you choose, and moved past closed weekdays when you set a start date. Public holidays and one-off closures are not checked.
  • Left out: combined tickets, opening hours other than the closed weekdays, and the places on the pass maps that have no price record.
  • MüzeKart fees: read from the tariff table in the ministry directive PDF on muze.gov.tr, with the date we read them. The PDF prints no effective date; the start date shown comes from the Ministry board decision as reported in the trade press, and applies only to the PDF whose checksum the platform recorded. If our copy is older than 400 days, or the platform flags it, the page hides the fees instead of showing an old one.
