How it works

One ratio, no black box

The calculator divides the price index of the end month by the index of the start month. Dollars, euros, gold and the wage follow the same idea with their own prices.

The formula

worth = amount × index(end) ÷ index(start)

The ratio shows how much more the same basket costs. Subtract 1 to get the rise in percent.

Your case: 1,000 × 134.75 ÷ 17.705291 = 7,610.72

Months and release

TÜİK publishes each month’s index around the third of the following month. The price level of a month is one number, so a date inside a month uses that month. “Today” means the latest published month.

Dollars, euros, gold, wage

Dollar and euro use the Central Bank’s selling rate as dated in its EVDS series (the rate announced on the previous business day applies to a date), gold the Borsa İstanbul price per gram, the wage the net minimum wage of the Ministry of Labour. A month is priced on its first day; without a quote that day, the last one within seven days counts.

What is left out

Interest, fees, taxes and dealer spreads, and your own shopping basket: a household’s inflation differs from the average. Only the official TÜİK index is used.

The Central Bank’s calculator

The Central Bank has its own inflation calculator on herkesicin.tcmb.gov.tr. Both are based on TÜİK’s index, but the Central Bank works with its own index chain rounded to two decimals, so results can differ slightly; in our tests never by more than 0.01 %. For a contract or a court, use the official one.

Questions

Questions about Turkish inflation and this calculator

How do I calculate inflation between two months in Turkey?

Divide the consumer price index of the later month by the index of the earlier month and multiply by your amount. For August 2021 to August 2026 the sum is 1,000 × 134.75 ÷ 17.705291 = 7,610.72. Subtract 1 from the ratio to get the total price rise.

How much is ₺1,000 from January 2016 worth today?

₺1,000 from January 2016 equals ₺15,629.65 in August 2026 prices. Prices rose 1,463% over that time, a factor of 15.63.

What is Turkey’s latest inflation rate?

For August 2026, annual inflation (against the same month a year earlier) is 31.51% and the monthly rate is 1.84%. Since December 2025, prices have risen 22.07%. The figures come from TÜİK’s index.

Which price index does the calculator use?

The consumer price index (CPI, TÜFE) of TÜİK for all of Türkiye, all items, as republished by the Central Bank’s EVDS. The series starts in January 2005. No unofficial inflation series is mixed in.

Why can my result differ from the Central Bank’s calculator?

Both start from TÜİK’s index, so they agree closely. The Central Bank works with its own index chain rounded to two decimals, and a difference of up to about 0.01 % can appear, mostly when a 2026 month or January 2005 is involved; in our tests it was never larger. If you need a figure for a contract, a rent dispute or a court, use the Central Bank’s own calculator at herkesicin.tcmb.gov.tr and keep its printout.

Would dollars, euros or gold have beaten inflation?

For the period the page opens with, ₺1,000 from August 2021 would be ₺5,756.19 in dollars, ₺5,503.63 in euros and ₺13,336.05 in gold, against ₺7,610.72 needed to keep up with prices. Try your own dates: the answer depends on the start month. Gold prices start in August 2018, so earlier starts show no gold row. Past results do not predict the future, and this is not investment advice.

How often is the data updated?

The index is added once a month, when TÜİK publishes it around the third of the following month. Dollar, euro and gold follow the latest daily quote, currently from 30 Sept 2026. The data on this page was last read from the source on 30 September 2026.

Why does the series start in 2005?

On 1 January 2005 Turkey removed six zeros from the lira and introduced the new lira. The calculator starts at January 2005 so that old and new lira are never mixed.

Is the result exact?

It is an estimate. The arithmetic is exact, but the index measures an average shopping basket, so your own price rise can differ. A date inside a month uses that month’s index, and dollar, euro and gold are priced at the start of the month.
