Türkiye’s state bodies publish three sets of figures on what things cost and what people earn: the consumer price index, made by the Turkish Statistical Institute (Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu, TÜİK) and published by the Central Bank (Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası, TCMB); the minimum wage, from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (Çalışma ve Sosyal Güvenlik Bakanlığı); and the public-transport fares of Istanbul, from İETT. Every figure here comes with its month or date.

The ticket

Eylül 2026: TÜFE, bir önceki yılın aynı ayına göre yüzde 29,73 arttı.

Consumer price index: +29.73% against the same month a year earlier (September 2026).

Five lines to ask for a figure

  • Bu ayın enflasyonu ne kadar? How much is this month’s inflation?
  • Asgari ücret ne kadar? How much is the minimum wage?
  • Tam bilet ne kadar? How much is a full fare?
  • Aylık kart ne kadar? How much is the monthly card?
  • Kira artışı yüzde kaç?By what percent did rent rise?

The price index, TÜFE

The consumer price index (Tüketici Fiyat Endeksi, TÜFE) measures how much the prices of the goods and services that households buy have changed. For September 2026 it stands at 29.73% above September 2025 (the annual change, yıllık) and 1.84% above August 2026 (the monthly change, aylık).

TÜİK, the Turkish Statistical Institute, makes the index. The Central Bank (TCMB) publishes TÜİK’s figures in its Tüketici Fiyatları (consumer prices) series: one row a month, with 2025 as the base year (2025 = 100). An index (endeks) follows change, not a price, so it holds no price in lira.

Public prices (kamu fiyatları)

Some prices are set by a public body or need its approval; the Central Bank’s Inflation Report terms them managed and directed prices (yönetilen/yönlendirilen fiyatlar): goods and services whose prices are set directly by public or public-linked bodies (municipalities, state enterprises) or need public approval.

TÜİK’s class for these items weighs 15.2% of the price basket as of 2026; the Central Bank puts the share at about 25% when items whose prices public bodies steer directly or indirectly are counted (its own estimate). A weight (ağırlık) is an item’s share of the basket (sepet): the same price rise moves the index more in an item with a larger weight.
