Medicine finder

From your medicine to the Turkish one

We match by active ingredient first, then strength and dosage form. A Turkish product with the same ingredient, strength and form is listed first; other strengths, other forms and combination medicines follow.

  1. 1Type what the box says

A brand from home (Tylenol, Doliprane, Nurofen), a Turkish brand, or the active ingredient. Any alphabet.

  2. 2See what matches

Same ingredient, strength and form first, drawn as the molecule it is. Suspended products are marked.

  3. 3Show the card at the pharmacy

A card in Turkish with the ingredient, strength and matching brands, to show or print.

Information, not medical advice. The same active ingredient does not always make two medicines interchangeable (salts, release, excipients). Always confirm with a pharmacist or doctor before taking or switching a medicine.

Prices

Why medicines cost less here

Türkiye prices medicines in euros, from the lowest price in five European reference countries, and converts them at a fixed “medicine euro”. Since it is 29.1164 lira, while the market euro is 55.75: medicine prices are worked out at 52% of the euro’s real value.

Medicine euro₺29.12

Market euro₺55.75

Medicine euro as a share of the market euro52%

Lira per euro, last quote of each month (TCMB selling rate) and the medicine euro in force that day.

The rate is set once a year, in principle, as a share of the previous year’s average euro (70% until 2017, 60% until March 2026, 65% since April 2026), and was raised mid-year several times since 2022. An original medicine is also capped at part of the reference price. This is why the same box often costs less here than in Europe, and why prices jump when the rate is updated.

Prescriptions

The five colours of a Turkish prescription

Of 7,084 products doctors can prescribe electronically, 247 need a coloured prescription, a stricter one for medicines that are watched closely.

  1. White (normal)6,837

    Most prescription medicines.

  2. Red38

Narcotic medicines: strong painkillers and stimulants.

    methylphenidate · fentanyl · morphine · remifentanil · oxycodone

  3. Green72

Psychotropic medicines: sedatives, some anti-epileptics and pain medicines.

    pregabalin · tramadol · diazepam · midazolam · alprazolam

  4. Purple84

Specialist medicines such as blood products and some biologics.

  5. Orange53

Specialist medicines such as clotting-factor concentrates.

Colours come from the SKRS e-prescription list, product by product; the examples are the ingredients carrying each colour most often. A white prescription does not mean a medicine is sold without one: ask the pharmacist.

Questions

Medicines in Türkiye, answered

Can I find the same medicine I use at home in Türkiye?

Usually yes, under a different name. Search for your brand above: the finder shows its active ingredient and the Turkish products with the same ingredient, strength and form among 22,174 licensed products. Confirm with the pharmacist before you take it.

Why does my medicine have another name in Türkiye?

Brand names are registered country by country, and many companies make the same ingredient: Türkiye has 8,165 brands on sale. The active ingredient (paracetamol, ibuprofen…) is the name that travels; it is printed on every box.

Do I need a prescription to buy medicine in Türkiye?

Many medicines need one, and medicines on red or green prescriptions (narcotic and psychotropic medicines) are never sold without one. Pharmacists decide for the others; bring your prescription or the box from home, and see a doctor if you need a new one.

Why are medicines cheaper in Türkiye?

Prices are set in euros and converted at a fixed medicine euro, now 29.12 lira, which is well below the market rate. See the chart above for how far apart the two have drifted since 2005.

What do red and green prescriptions mean?

They are stricter prescriptions for closely controlled medicines: red for narcotic medicines such as strong opioids and methylphenidate, green for psychotropic ones such as benzodiazepines, pregabalin and tramadol. Purple and orange are used for specialist medicines such as blood products.

Is a Turkish medicine with the same ingredient the same medicine?

It contains the same active ingredient, and with the same strength and form it is usually equivalent. Salts, release forms (retard, XR) and excipients can differ, so this finder lists matches for you to confirm with a pharmacist, not to replace their advice.

Where can I buy medicine at night?

Pharmacies take turns staying open at night: see Duty pharmacies for tonight’s list and a map.

Where can I read a Turkish medicine’s leaflet?

Every licensed medicine’s official summary (KÜB) and patient leaflet (KT) are published by TİTCK at titck.gov.tr/kubkt, in Turkish.

Where the data comes from

Active substances are tied to one ingredient each (salts and hydrates set aside, esters that make a different medicine kept), strengths are read from product names, and a foreign brand is matched to Turkish products by ingredients, then strength and dosage form. Matching is automatic and can miss unusual spellings; it never replaces a pharmacist.
