US Polo Assn Turkey: Tax-Free Refund, Prices, Stores, Sizes
Get the VAT back at the airport, see what a polo costs, find a store on the map, and check sizes and the 30-day return rules.
Table of Contents
In Turkey, U.S. Polo Assn. clothes are made and sold under licence by Aydınlı, an Istanbul clothing group, since 1997. On 16 October 2026 its store finder listed 273 stores in 58 cities, and its website delivers only inside Turkey, so visitors shop in the stores. If you live abroad, the VAT on a receipt over 1,000 TL before VAT can come back to you when you leave, from a shop that does tax-free sales. This guide shows how, with the day’s prices, a store map, sizes and the return rules.
US Polo Assn in Turkey, in short · checked 16.10.2026
An American name, sold in Turkey by Aydınlı: buy in a store, and ask for the VAT back.
- Who sells it – Aydınlı Hazır Giyim, under licence since 1997. Its website says everything it sells there is original.
- VAT back – for visitors who live abroad: one invoice over 1,000 TL before VAT, and the goods out of Turkey within 3 months.
- Tax-free shops – only shops with a tax-free permit or a refund company’s sign. The brand’s site doesn’t say its stores take part, so ask before you pay.
- A basic polo – had a list price of 1,399.95 TL and sold for 629.95 TL online on 16 October 2026.
- Online orders – go only to addresses in Turkey.
- Returns – online orders: 30 days from the order date. Store purchases: an exchange in any store within 30 days, with the receipt.
Tax-free: the VAT back when you leave
If you don’t live in Turkey, the VAT you pay in a tax-free shop comes back when you take the goods out of the country. Clothes, shoes and bags carry 10 % VAT, so the VAT is one eleventh of the price, about 9 %. Three conditions: one invoice over 1,000 TL before VAT, a shop that does tax-free sales, and the goods out of Turkey within 3 months of the invoice date. Build a basket from the brand’s own prices, or type your receipt:

The line: more than 1,000.00 TL before VAT, on one invoice
Over the line: up to 341.80 TL of VAT can come back on this receipt. Leave Türkiye with the goods by 16 January 2027, and have the invoice stamped at customs on the way out.
Example: two men’s polos, a women’s polo and a pair of jeans at their online prices on 16 October 2026; store prices can differ. Change the receipt date to yours; the leave-by date follows it. The refund is the VAT on the invoice; a refund company keeps a fee, which is the difference shown on its form.
The rule is article 11/1-b of the VAT law (Katma Değer Vergisi Kanunu, no. 3065):
“Türkiye’de ikamet etmeyen yolcuların satın alarak Türkiye dışına götürdükleri malların teslimi anında Katma Değer Vergisi tahsil edilir. Ancak gümrükten malın çıkışı anında fatura veya belgenin ibrazında tahsil edilen Katma Değer Vergisi iade olunur.”
KDV Kanunu 3065, md. 11/1-b
In English: VAT is charged when travellers who don’t live in Turkey buy goods to take out of the country, and it is refunded when the goods leave through customs and the invoice is shown. The details are in the VAT tebliğ, section II/A-5. Since 1 February 2024 the minimum has been 1,000 TL before VAT; it was 100 TL before.
Who can claim, and where
- Foreign visitors – foreign nationals who don’t live in Turkey and take the goods abroad.
- Turks abroad – Turkish citizens who live in another country and have a residence permit or a similar document from it.
- Residents – a foreigner who lives in Turkey can’t claim.
- Tax-free shops only – a shop with a permit from its tax office (İzin Belgesi), hung where you can see it, or a shop with a contract with a refund company authorised by the Revenue Administration (GİB).
- Goods you carry – any goods you take with you, except fuels on the excise list; services such as meals, hotels and alterations don’t count.
- One invoice – the 1,000 TL is the total before VAT on one invoice. Several items on it count together, so pay for them together.
The sign to look for
A shop with a refund-company contract must hang a sign with this sentence: “İşletmemizde, ………. ile yapılan ……….tarihli sözleşmeye dayanılarak, 3065 sayılı Kanunun (11/1-b) maddesine göre Türkiye’de ikamet etmeyen yolculara yapılan satışlarda KDV istisnası uygulanmaktadır. (tarih)” It says that, under a contract with a named company, the shop applies the VAT exemption for travellers who don’t live in Turkey. U.S. Polo Assn.’s own website says nothing about tax-free shopping, so look for the sign or the permit, and ask at the till before you pay.
From the till to the money
- At the till. Show your passport and ask for a tax-free invoice. The shop writes your passport type and number on it and gives you three of its four copies. A shop that works with a refund company uses that company’s form, the fatura-çek.
- Keep the goods with you. The customs officer must see them when you leave, so keep them where you can show them.
- Customs, on the way out. Within 3 months of the invoice date, show the goods and the invoice and have it approved. Leave two of the three approved copies with the officer; with a refund company’s form, you keep the original.
- The money. With the shop’s cheque, cash it at the bank branch at customs, in foreign currency or lira. With a refund company, you are paid on the stamped original, minus its fee. Or post the stamped copy to the shop within 3 months of leaving: it pays within 10 days.
| Route | Where you get the money | Time limit |
|---|---|---|
| The shop’s cheque | cash at the bank branch at customs, in foreign currency or in lira | when you leave, with the approved invoice |
| A refund company | paid on the approved original form; its fee is the difference shown on the form | the same limits as the other routes |
| Post it to the shop | to your bank account or your address | send it within 3 months of leaving; the shop pays within 10 days |
| Bring it back by hand | cash from the shop | within 3 months of leaving |
| Paid at the till | the shop pays the VAT back when you buy | the goods still leave within 3 months, and the approved copy reaches the shop within 3 months of leaving |

Example: a chest of 100 cm, and UK 9 men’s shoes. The chart gives body measures, taken over underwear. Between two rows, the bigger size is the easy fit. Children’s sizes go by height. The men’s chart jumps from 22.1 to 23.6 cm between sizes 37 and 38; that is how the brand prints it.
- Chest or bust – round the fullest part, under the arms, with the tape level.
- Waist – at its narrowest, without pulling the tape tight.
- Children – go by height, measured without shoes.
- Feet – the brand suggests measuring in the afternoon, wearing the socks you will wear with the shoes: feet swell during the day.
Returns and exchanges
An unused online order can go back for 30 days from the order date; the law only requires 14 days from delivery. A store purchase can be exchanged in any U.S. Polo Assn. store within 30 days, with the receipt. Underwear, swimwear and socks never go back. Pick your case and slide to the day you are on:

What can you still do on day…?
Bought
The item
Day 20Inside the brand’s 30 days
- Money back: in Siparişlerim, create a return code and hand the parcel to the carrier you chose, free. Or take it to any U.S. Polo Assn. store with the code and the invoice or a screenshot of it.
- Another size: only in a store, with the invoice. Items sold only online can’t be swapped in a store.
- Unused, with its tags, in its packaging and with all its parts; no perfume or deodorant smell.
- The money goes back the way you paid, within 14 days after the parcel reaches the warehouse.
- The law’s 14 days run from delivery: if the parcel came late, count from the day it arrived.
Example: day 20 after an online order. Online, the brand counts from the order date; the law’s 14 days and the 2 years for faults count from delivery. The faults line follows the law: the brand’s page gives leather jackets a shorter guarantee.
Sending an online order back
- Open the order. In your account, go to Siparişlerim (my orders) and start a return request.
- Pick and explain. Choose the items, the reason and the carrier. You get a return code.
- Hand it in. At that carrier’s office with the code, free; another carrier costs you the postage. Or take it to any store with the code and the invoice. A parcel without a return code is not accepted.
- Wait for the money. It goes back the way you paid, within 14 days after the parcel reaches the warehouse; an email tells you when it arrives.
A faulty item has longer. You can send it for inspection within the 2-year guarantee, with the invoice and the inspection form; it is checked within 21 working days, and a manufacturing fault gets your money back within 14 days. Turkish consumer law (no. 6502) gives 2 years from delivery, and in the first 6 months it assumes the fault was there from the start. Questions go to the customer line, 444 60 44, every day from 09:00 to 19:00.
Who makes it: Aydınlı and a polo association
The United States Polo Association was founded in 1890 and runs the sport of polo in the United States; the U.S. Polo Assn. clothes carry its name. In Turkey they are made and sold by Aydınlı Hazır Giyim Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., based in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, which also runs Pierre Cardin and Cacharel and says it employs over 4,000 people. Its website says: “Sitemizde satışa sunulan tüm ürünler orijinaldir” – everything sold on the site is original.

Sources and limits
We read U.S. Polo Assn. Turkey’s own pages and store data, the VAT law and its tebliğ, and the consumer law on 16 October 2026. We left out what we could not trace to them: whether U.S. Polo Assn. stores are tax-free shops, store opening hours, refund-company fees in percent, and the number of countries the brand is sold in, which two of its pages give differently. Prices change often; the ones here carry their date.
