Data is sourced from Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) at Boğaziçi University, Turkey's premier seismological research center.

How often is the earthquake data updated?

The earthquake data is automatically updated every 5 minutes from the Kandilli Observatory live feed.

What magnitude earthquakes are displayed?

By default, earthquakes with magnitude 2.0 and above are displayed. You can use the filter buttons to show only larger earthquakes (3.0+, 4.0+, or 5.0+).

What should I do during an earthquake?

How is earthquake magnitude measured?

Earthquake magnitude is measured using the local magnitude scale (ML). This measures the amplitude of seismic waves recorded by seismographs. Each whole number increase represents about 31 times more energy released.
