Steps to work as an Engineer in Turkey
To be able to work as an Engineer within the Turkish territory, the engineer must take the following steps:
Preparing the required documents for Engineering equivalency
In order for your foreign engineering degree to be recognized in Turkey, you must provide the following documents:
- Bachelor’s degree attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and translated into Turkish.
- Transcripts attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and translated into Turkish.
- A high school diploma attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The passport is translated into Turkish.
- A preliminary work contract from a Turkish company, which is a fictitious work contract, the purpose of which is to complete the equivalency procedures.
Submitting the papers
You need to submit papers to the Higher Education Council (YÖK) or authorize a person or institution to deliver the papers after attestation and translation into Turkish. The certificates are then checked, and the university from which the engineer graduated is contacted; the entire process takes about a year.
Learning Turkish language
Learning Turkish language is essential for living and working in Turkey, it is not required to obtain a certificate in the Turkish language, but rather to pass a language exam.

Passing the exam
The fourth step is to pass the equivalency exam. The exam takes place in the engineering field that the engineer wants to work at.
The Engineering equivalency exam in Turkey is made in Turkish langauge.
The engineering equivalency exam is usually held in January and July in Turkey. The exam can be entered during the period of the one year while YÖK is reviewing your certificates.
Registering with the Union of Engineers
After receiving the equivalency certificate You should register yourself in The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects, after which You will have the right to work as an Engineer in Turkey.
