Shipyards in Turkey: Where They Are, Dock Sizes and 2025 Figures

Where each member of Turkey’s shipbuilders’ association is, what the yards say about themselves and whether your ship fits their docks, from primary sources only.

Turkey’s shipbuilding is gathered on a few stretches of coast. Of the 75 entries in the member list of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GİSBİR), 41 are in Tuzla, Istanbul, and 16 in Altınova, Yalova. For 2025 the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure counts 85 shipyards with a building capacity of 4.79 million DWT.

Where the yards are shore by shore

Most GİSBİR members sit side by side on two shores of the Sea of Marmara: Tuzla on Istanbul’s eastern edge and Altınova in Yalova province. The rest are in Kocaeli, Pendik, on the Black Sea coast, in Antalya and in a few other towns. Pick a shore and tap any dot to see the name, the address and, where there is one, a profile.

Shipyard, boatyard or slipway? What the law says

Turkish law tells three kinds of site apart and sets a vessel-length limit for each. The lines are drawn in Article 4 of the regulation on shipyards, boat-building sites and slipway sites, in force since 28 June 2015.

The small sites outnumber the yards

In 2025 the Transport Ministry counted 85 shipyards and 1,099 boat-building and slipway sites; the small sites grew from 772 in 2015 to 1,099. The count includes sites both inside and outside the regulation’s scope.

The same year, 10,155 private boats were registered in Turkey.

The 2025 figures come from the 2025 edition of this dataset (prepared on 2 February 2026), which does not mark them as provisional or partial; earlier editions did not revise past years later either. The repair and delivery series start in 2011.

Ship and yacht deliveries came to 35 thousand DWT in 2025, down from 282 thousand in 2024. The same year, ships of 42.4 million DWT were repaired and maintained at the yards. The data does not give a reason for the drop in deliveries.

In 2025, 87 ships with a total of 1,150 thousand gross tonnes (GT) were recycled in Turkey.

Where the ships go

In 2025 the “Ship, Yacht and Services” sector of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) registered $2.24 billion of exports. Norway was the largest destination at about $400 million, followed by Denmark, the Marshall Islands and Greece.

The Transport Ministry gives $3.06 billion for 2025. The two figures do not count the same thing: TİM counts the export registrations of its own “Ship, Yacht and Services” sector, and the ministry its “ships and vessels” export series, with its own scope.

Common questions

Which is the best shipyard in Turkey?

No primary source ranks them. GİSBİR and the Transport Ministry publish industry totals only. To choose, ask each yard for its dock sizes, the types of ship it says it has built and its delivery record.

Where is Sefine Shipyard?

In Altınova, Yalova. GİSBİR lists it at Hersek Köyü İpekyolu Cad. No.7 Altınova – Yalova. Its own site says it was established in 2007 and has a 90,000 DWT dry dock and two floating docks lifting 40,000 t and 75,000 t.

What does Argem Shipyard build?

According to its own site, it has built fishing boats, yachts and ships of various types in Pendik since 1999, and repairs them; it has one 120 × 30 m slipway.

Which shipyards are listed on the stock exchange?

Hat-San’s shares have traded on Borsa İstanbul as HATSN since 22 September 2023, and Özata’s as OZATD since 5 September 2024. Listed companies publish their filings on KAP.

What is the difference between DWT and lifting tonnes?

DWT is the weight a ship itself can carry; lifting tonnes are the weight a dock can lift. Don’t compare the two directly.
