Reading the list

  • Each name is printed in full, as the regulator has it: Türkiye Vakıflar Bankası T.A.O. for VakıfBank, Yapı ve Kredi Bankası A.Ş. for Yapı Kredi.
  • Three names are branches of banks from abroad: Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. (Italy), JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A. (Columbus, Ohio) and Société Générale (S.A.) (Paris).
  • Other kinds of companies have their own pages: financial leasing, factoring, financing, savings-finance, financial holding and asset-management companies.
  • The participation banks have a trade body of their own, the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye (TKBB). Its page says every participation bank must join within one month of getting a banking licence.
  • Its FAQ page says a participation bank works without interest: it puts the funds it collects to work under financing principles without interest and shares the resulting profit or loss with savers.

Its page on becoming a customer says a foreigner can apply with a tax identification number (Vergi Kimlik Numarası, VKN) as one of three kinds of ID.
