Buying an iPhone in Turkey: The 2026 Price & Tax Survival Guide
Table of Contents
On 01.10.2026 the iPhone 17 with 256 GB costs 99,999 TL in Apple’s Turkish online store. The same phone costs $929 in Apple’s US store before sales tax, which is about 45,550 TL at the TCMB selling rate of 49.0348 TL per dollar, so the Turkish price is roughly 2.2 times higher. Bringing a phone in from abroad avoids that gap, but if you keep using it in Türkiye beyond 120 days it must be registered, and the 2026 registration fee is 54,258 TL.
Put together, the two roughly cancel out for the iPhone 17. Buying here wins for the cheaper iPhone 17e and iPhone 16, and bringing one in comes out ahead on paper for the iPhone Air and the Pro models. This guide shows the numbers with their sources, explains the rules behind the 120 days, and gives you a calculator to fill with your own prices.
Prices move. Every price here is a list price from Apple’s own stores on 01.10.2026. Apple changes prices, the lira moves daily and the registration fee is revalued each January. Check the live Apple pages and the sources at the end before you buy. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

The Reality: Why Is It So Expensive?
Mostly tax, plus a premium we cannot split out. Apple’s Turkish prices include 20% VAT (KDV) and a special consumption tax (ÖTV) that is charged on the phone’s pre-tax value. Three rules set the tax on a phone:
- The percentage depends on the pre-tax value. For mobile phones (tariff code 8517.12.00.00.11), Presidential Decision 10521 sets 25% up to 4,500 TL, 40% from 4,500 to 9,000 TL and 50% above that. It was published in the Resmi Gazete on 24.10.2025.
- There is a floor. From 01.01.2026 the ÖTV on a phone is at least 456 TL (Communiqué Series No: 5, published 31.12.2025). At iPhone prices the percentage is far above that floor, so it does not matter here.
- VAT is 20%, and it is included in the prices Apple shows.
Our own arithmetic, not a published figure: with 50% ÖTV and then 20% VAT on top, the pre-tax value is the shelf price divided by 1.8, so roughly 44% of an iPhone’s shelf price is tax. That assumes the top ÖTV bracket and VAT charged on the ÖTV-inclusive price. It also explains only part of the gap. The Turkish price is 2.1 to 2.35 times the US price in lira (table below), against a tax factor of 1.8, so the rest comes from importer margins, costs and pricing choices we cannot see from outside.
Imported cars are another purchase where tax drives the price. Our guide to buying a car in Turkey as a foreigner covers that side.

The Price Shock in Detail (01.10.2026)
Among the models we compared, the iPhone 17e is the cheapest at 72,999 TL for 256 GB, and the range runs up to 255,999 TL for the 2 TB iPhone 18 Pro Max. For every model, the Turkish price is between 2.1 and 2.35 times the US list price in lira. The last column shows what the same phone would cost if you bought it abroad and paid the registration fee.
| Model | Apple Türkiye | Apple US | US price in lira | Türkiye ÷ US | Bring one in, with fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17e, 256 GB | 72,999 TL | $699 | 34,275 TL | 2.13× | 88,533 TL |
| iPhone 16, 128 GB | 85,999 TL | $829 | 40,650 TL | 2.12× | 94,908 TL |
| iPhone 17, 256 GB | 99,999 TL | $929 | 45,553 TL | 2.20× | 99,811 TL |
| iPhone Air, 256 GB | 122,999 TL | $1,099 | 53,889 TL | 2.28× | 108,147 TL |
| iPhone 18 Pro, 256 GB | 137,999 TL | $1,199 | 58,793 TL | 2.35× | 113,051 TL |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max, 256 GB | 149,999 TL | $1,299 | 63,696 TL | 2.35× | 117,954 TL |
Read the last column against the second one. For the iPhone 17e and the iPhone 16, bringing one in costs more than buying here, because the fee is large compared with what you save. The iPhone 17 is a tie, within 188 TL. For the iPhone Air and the two Pro models, bringing one in saves about 15,000 to 32,000 TL on paper.
Treat the saving as an upper limit. It assumes the US price, a phone that gets through customs without extra charges, and that you still have your registration right. We did not verify what customs charges on a new phone carried in a suitcase, so check that before you count on it.
Run the Numbers for Your Phone
Prices differ by model, storage size and the day you look. The calculator below starts from Apple’s list prices on 01.10.2026 and lets you change every number. It compares what you would pay at Apple Türkiye with a phone bought abroad at the TCMB rate plus the registration fee. Switch it to “Up to 120 days” if you will leave before registration is due.
Buy it here or bring it in?
Count your 120 and 365 days
The break-even line is the highest price abroad, in dollars before sales tax, at which bringing the phone in still beats Apple Türkiye. Your card issuer’s exchange rate and fees will differ from the TCMB selling rate, and shop prices in Europe include VAT, so use your real checkout total where you can.
Where to Buy: Apple Store vs. Other Retailers
Apple’s own Turkish online store at apple.com/tr shows the current list prices, so it is the easiest place to check any offer against. Apple lists three Apple Stores in Türkiye, all in Istanbul: Zorlu Center, Bağdat Caddesi and Akasya (Apple’s store list, checked 01.10.2026).
Large electronics chains such as MediaMarkt, Teknosa and Vatan Bilgisayar also sell iPhones. We did not check their prices, instalment terms or insurance offers on 01.10.2026, so compare any offer with Apple’s list price in the table above and ask what the receipt and warranty documents will say.
If You Bring a Phone From Abroad: the 120-Day Rule
A phone bought abroad works with a Turkish SIM for 120 days from the day it enters Türkiye. After that, an unregistered phone is cut off from the Turkish mobile networks until it is registered, and the registration fee for 2026 is 54,258 TL. If you leave before the 120 days are over, you do not need to register it.
The steps below follow BTK’s consumer page and the registration regulation. The BTK page dates from 2018, so check each step on e-Devlet before you pay anything.
- Check that you still have the right. Each person can register one phone per three calendar years (Presidential Decision 1111, 14.05.2019). BTK’s page says the right returns on 1 January after the registration year and the following two years. You can check it on e-Devlet or by calling BTK on 120.
- Pay the fee. The 2026 amount is 54,258 TL (fee schedule in General Communiqué Series No: 98, published 31.12.2025). BTK’s page describes paying at a bank, a tax office or by card on the internet tax office, then confirming the payment on e-Devlet with the 8-digit tracking number.
- Register the phone. The application is made on e-Devlet within 365 days of the phone’s entry. The 365 days do not extend the 120 days of use. BTK says foreign residents aged 18 or over with a foreigner ID number (YKN) can get an e-Devlet password from a PTT branch.
- Check the result. The IMEI query on e-Devlet shows the status of a phone.
Carry it in yourself. According to BTK’s consumer page (dated 26.06.2018), phones that arrive by post or are bought online cannot be registered, and the registration right cannot be transferred to another person. Rules change, so confirm the current position with BTK on 120 before you buy.
Once registered, the phone’s IMEI is held on a list paired with the SIM lines registered to your ID, and the regulation sets that period at three calendar years (Articles 8(d) and 14(7)). If you plan to sell the phone or use it with a line in someone else’s name, ask BTK first. A phone sold by a Turkish retailer should already be registered; BTK treats an unregistered phone bought locally as a defective product under the consumer law (Law 6502).
The Warranty Trap: Local vs. Foreign Phones
A phone bought in Türkiye is covered by Apple’s limited warranty for two years, according to Apple’s support page (checked 01.10.2026). Whether a phone you bought abroad gets the same cover in Türkiye depends on Apple’s warranty terms for the country of purchase. We could not confirm that, so ask Apple support before you rely on it.
We also could not confirm whether AppleCare+ is sold for iPhone in Türkiye, and we could not verify the price or cover of any retailer’s device insurance. If a seller offers insurance, ask for the policy wording in writing: what it excludes, whether it covers theft and accidental damage, and who pays for a screen repair.

The Hidden Advantage of Turkish Models
The Turkish iPhone 17 has a physical SIM slot as well as eSIM; the US one does not. Apple’s Turkish specs page lists “Çift SIM (nano-SIM ve eSIM)” for the iPhone 17, while Apple’s US specs page lists dual eSIM and says the phone is not compatible with physical SIM cards (both checked 01.10.2026).
The Turkish specs pages for the iPhone 17e and iPhone 16 list nano-SIM plus eSIM, and the iPhone Air supports eSIM only. We did not check the Pro models, so look at the SIM line on Apple’s specs page for your model and country. If you rely on physical prepaid SIMs when you travel, see our guide to Vodafone Turkey prepaid and roaming.
Payment & Installments
Apple Türkiye does not sell iPhones in instalments. Its instalment page says “iPhone için taksitle satış seçeneği yoktur”, which means there is no instalment option for iPhone (checked 01.10.2026). Other retailers and banks may set their own terms. We did not verify them, so ask before you count on instalments.
Prices in the table run from 72,999 TL to 255,999 TL, so check that your card limit covers the full amount before you go to pay.
Verdict: Should You Buy It Here?
It depends on how long you stay and which phone you want. On the 01.10.2026 prices:
- Buy in Türkiye if you want an iPhone 17e or iPhone 16. Even at the US price, bringing one in costs more once the 54,258 TL fee is added, and buying here avoids the registration steps.
- Compare closely for the iPhone 17. The two routes are within 188 TL on paper, so the warranty and the physical SIM slot on the Turkish model can decide it.
- Bring one in for the iPhone Air or a Pro model if you can carry it in yourself and still have your registration right. On paper that saves about 15,000 to 32,000 TL, before the trip, sales tax abroad and any customs charge.
- Staying under 120 days? Use the phone you already own. An unregistered phone works for 120 days from entry.
Rules and prices in Türkiye change often, so recheck the fee and Apple’s prices on the day you decide. If you are pricing other hardware as well, see our guide to Nvidia graphics card prices in Turkey, and for everyday spending beyond the phone, our LC Waikiki guide.
How We Checked This Guide
We read Apple Türkiye’s and Apple US’s online stores, the TCMB rate list, the Presidential Decision on ÖTV, the registration regulation and BTK’s consumer page on 01.10.2026, and calculated every comparison from those numbers. We removed figures we could not source, such as insurance premiums, repair costs, delivery times and resale values. The 44% tax share and the saving in the table are our own arithmetic and say so where they appear.
