Prices

What things cost, measured three ways

Consumer prices are what households pay. Core inflation leaves out the items that jump around, so it shows the trend. Producer prices show what factories receive, often a first sign of what shops will charge.

Inflation (consumer prices)

TCMB data

31.51%a year, August 2026

A month earlier (Jul 2026)
31.75%−0.24 pp
A year earlier (Aug 2025)
32.95%−1.44 pp

Prices are 31.51% higher than a year ago: what cost ₺100 then costs about ₺132 now. In August 2026 alone, the monthly change was 1.84%.

Core inflation (C)

TCMB data

30.07%a year, August 2026

A month earlier (Jul 2026)
29.91%+0.16 pp
A year earlier (Aug 2025)
33.00%−2.93 pp

With the items that jump around left out (food, energy, alcohol, tobacco, gold), prices still rise 30.07% a year. Headline inflation is 31.51%.

Producer prices (PPI)

TCMB data

27.95%a year, August 2026

A month earlier (Jul 2026)
27.83%+0.12 pp
A year earlier (Aug 2025)
25.16%+2.79 pp

What factories receive for their goods is 27.95% higher than a year ago; the monthly change was 2.57%. Rises here often reach shop prices later.

Also measured: core inflation B, which leaves out unprocessed food, energy, alcohol, tobacco and gold, stands at 30.68% a year (August 2026). Every indicator is in the table below.

Money

The central bank’s cushion and the lira’s real value

Reserves are the foreign currency and gold the central bank can use to steady the lira. The real exchange rate says whether the lira buys more or less abroad once price differences are counted.

Central bank reserves

TCMB data

$174.4 bnon 18 Sept 2026

Four weeks earlier (21 Aug 2026)
$188.4 bn−7.5%
A year earlier (19 Sept 2025)
$178.9 bn−2.5%

On 18 Sept 2026 the central bank held $174.4 bn in foreign currency and gold in total, −2.5% compared with a year earlier. A bigger cushion gives it more room to steady the lira.

Real exchange rate (REER)

TCMB data

105.04index, 2025 = 100, August 2026

A month earlier (Jul 2026)
106.11−1.0%
A year earlier (Aug 2025)
97.27+8.0%

The index is 100 in 2025. At 105.04, the lira is about 5.0% higher in real terms: imports and trips abroad are relatively cheaper, while Turkish goods and holidays cost foreigners more.

Jobs

How many are looking for work

The unemployment rate is the share of the labour force with no job that is looking for one. This is the seasonally adjusted figure, so one month can be compared with the next.

Unemployment rate

TCMB data

A month earlier (Jul 2026)
8.1%−0.3 pp
A year earlier (Aug 2025)
8.6%−0.8 pp

About 78 of every thousand people in the labour force have no job and are looking for one (7.8%).

Trade

What Türkiye sells and buys abroad

Exports bring foreign currency in, imports send it out. The balance is the difference; this page works it out from the two TCMB series.

Exports

For August 2026, Türkiye sold $23.5 bn of goods abroad, +8.1% on a year earlier. Over the last 12 months exports add up to $280.3 bn.

Imports

For August 2026, Türkiye bought $28.7 bn of goods from abroad, +10.5% on a year earlier. Over the last 12 months imports add up to $378.0 bn.

Spending

What cards really spent

Debit and credit card spending is a quick read of how much is going through shops and services. It is counted in lira, so part of any rise is just higher prices; the estimate beside it takes prices out.

Card spending

TCMB data

Debit and credit cards were used for ₺2.74 trn in the four weeks to 18 Sept 2026; the latest week alone was ₺680 bn. These are lira, so part of any rise is just higher prices.

Expectations

What markets expect by the end of the year

Each month the central bank asks economists, bankers and business people where inflation and the dollar will be. These are their answers, not a forecast by Turkpidya or by the bank.

All series in one file, every month or week the page holds.

How it works

Four things to know before you rely on a figure

The page does no guessing. It reads, it subtracts and divides, and it says when it has nothing new.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure is read from the Turkpidya data platform, which collects the series of TÜİK and the central bank (TCMB) through the bank’s EVDS data service. Nothing is typed in by hand: the value, its date and its source are the ones the platform holds when the page is built.

How the changes are worked out

“A month earlier” is the previous month (for weekly series, four weeks earlier) and “a year earlier” is the same month or week a year back. Inflation, producer prices and core inflation are annual rates worked out from the index: the index of the month divided by the index of the same month a year before. Rates (inflation, unemployment, survey answers) change in percentage points; amounts (exports, reserves) change in percent. The trade balance is exports minus imports, calculated here.

When a card turns grey

A card turns grey, with “not updated since …”, when the newest figure is older than the platform allows for that series: 65 days for monthly price data and 21 days for weekly data (jobs and trade come out later, so they are given longer). A grey card still shows its last figure and the date, so nothing is hidden.

What this page does not do

It shows no release calendar or “next update” date, because the data do not carry one and a guess could be wrong. It makes no forecast: the expectations are the survey’s, not ours. And the reserves are gross (foreign currency and gold together), not net of what the central bank owes.

Questions

Questions people ask about Türkiye’s economy

What is the inflation rate in Türkiye right now?

For August 2026, annual consumer price inflation was 31.51%: prices were that much higher than a year earlier. The change over the month itself was 1.84%. Core inflation (index C, which leaves out the most volatile items such as food and energy) was 30.07%. A month before, the annual rate was 31.75%.

What is the difference between consumer prices, core inflation and producer prices?

Consumer price inflation (31.51% for August 2026) measures what households pay in shops and for services. Core inflation (30.07%) leaves out the most volatile items such as food and energy, so it shows the underlying trend. Producer prices (27.95%) measure what producers receive for what they sell, and they often move before shop prices do.

What is the unemployment rate in Türkiye?

For August 2026, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 7.8%, a change of −0.3 pp from the month before. It counts people who have no work, are looking for it and are able to start, as a share of the labour force.

How large are the central bank’s reserves?

On 18 Sept 2026, the gross reserves of the central bank, foreign currency and gold together, stood at $174.4 bn. Against four weeks earlier, the change was −7.5%. They are gross figures: what the bank owes is not taken off.

What is Türkiye’s trade balance?

For August 2026, goods exports were $23.5 bn and imports $28.7 bn, so the trade deficit for the month was $5.2 bn. Over the last 12 months the trade deficit adds up to $97.8 bn. These are goods only; services such as tourism are not included.

What do markets expect for inflation and the dollar?

In the central bank’s survey of market participants for September 2026, the expected annual inflation was 29.6% at the end of 2026 and 23.7% twelve months ahead. For the dollar, the survey expected ₺51.57 at the end of 2026 and ₺58.60 twelve months ahead. These are what the people surveyed expect, not forecasts by Turkpidya.

Why is a card on this page grey?

A grey card means the newest figure is older than the platform allows for that series: 65 days for monthly price data and 21 days for weekly data. The card still shows its last value and its date. The data on this page were last checked on 30 September 2026.

Can I download or reuse the data?

Yes. Each indicator has its own CSV and JSON download, and the table of all indicators can be downloaded at once. The data are free to use, also commercially, under CC BY 4.0: credit turkpidya.com with a link, and name TÜİK and the central bank as the sources.
