According to the Turkish election system, The Turkish election went to a second round because no candidate reached a majority of votes (over 50%) in the first round of elections. The two leading candidates, Erdogan and Kılıçdaroğlu, will now compete against each other for a majority of votes. The second round will take place on May 28th.

Overview of the Turkish Election System and First Round Results

In general, the Turkish election system consists of both presidential and parliamentary elections. The presidential elections determine the head of state, while the parliamentary elections are for the 600-member Grand National Assembly.

YSK Chairman Ahmet Yener recently shared information related to the outcomes of the Presidential and General Assembly elections, expressing gratitude to the institution personnel for their hard work during this challenging process.

As of 15 March 2023, 100% of domestic ballot boxes had been opened, with a participation rate of 88.92%. For Turkish citizens voting abroad, the participation rate was 52.99%. There are still 35,874 votes pending data entry for those who voted outside Turkey.
