The city developed significantly when Ibrahim Pasha, who was born in the city, assumed the position of Grand Vizier in the Ottoman Empire. Ibrahim Pasha built a mosque in his hometown and took care of the reconstruction of the city.

According to the Ottoman census of 1881 / 82-1893, the population of Nevsehirr was 39,822 people, consisting of 30,370 Muslims, 8,918 Greeks, 477 Armenians, 36 Catholics, and 21 Protestants.

The city is located in the Central Anatolia region and is bordered by Kırşehir to the northwest, Aksaray to the southwest, Nigde to the south, Kayseri to the southeast, and Yozgat to the north.
